Northern Hills Recreation Association
Our mission is to strengthen the Northern Black Hills communities through programs, services, and facilities which enhance personal development, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage community involvement, and foster environmental stewardship.
what we do
Funding Opportunities
We offer scholarships and a bike program to support youth in Lead and Deadwood. Our scholarships cover registration fees and equipment for sports and recreation, while our bike program refurbishes bikes for local kids, promoting outdoor activity and transportation. Together, these programs help ensure all young people have the resources to succeed.
Events
Participate in one of a variety of exciting events throughout the year, offering something for everyone in our community. From motorsport races to family-friendly activities, there’s always something happening to bring people together.
Winter Sports
We groom two scenic trails at Tamahawk Country Club, perfect for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and fat tire biking. These well-maintained trails offer winter enthusiasts a beautiful and accessible outdoor experience.
Maintain Trails
We play a crucial role in developing and maintaining trails like the Homestake Trail, enhancing outdoor recreational opportunities for the community. During the winter, we groom the trail to ensure it’s perfect for winter recreation.
Develop Urban Trails
Developing trails to enhance accessibility and outdoor enjoyment within the community is one of our pillars of success. We have played a key role in creating the Lead and Deadwood Urban Trails map, providing residents and visitors with clear guidance on exploring local pathways.
plan new trails
Our newest trail project aims at improving connectivity and accessibility throughout Lead. This initiative will provide residents and visitors with safe and convenient routes for walking, hiking, and biking, making it easier to navigate Lead’s diverse terrain.
